Lovers Only is the last of the albums for the Escaflowne TV series and probably the best. It is basically a "best of " from the previous three soundtracks with a couple of originals and re-mixes that don't appear on the others. The album is a very nice mix representing all the aspects of the Escaflowne series.

The first song is the Promises Not Necessary (TV Edit) which starts out much slower than the regular version but kicks in later on in the song. I like this version a lot, but I still go back to the first OST to listen to other one more than I do to this version. A number of tracks from the previous albums run through until you reach My Best Friend sung by Maaya Sakamoto which s just about the only song by her that I'm not crazy about. A few more tracks from previous albums that I would not have put on the album lead up to Perfect World from Escaflowne OST3. The last few songs are where the album truly shines. It starts with a nice piano rendition of Hitomi's theme followed by Angel which is one of my favorites off the first album. Cat's Feelings is the next song sung by Merle(Ikue Ohtani) which is neat little diddy that captures the essence of Merle's character.

Now two original songs appear in the last three. The first is the Day the Wind blows sung once again by Maaya Sakamoto. A nice song with some background music giving it a very uplifting feel. The TV edit of Mystic Eyes follows and for some reason I like it better on this album(probably cause its shorter). The last song is aptly titled The Story of Escaflowne~End Title. A grand instrumental piece with a couple seconds of Hitmoi speaking at the end that was used in episode 26 to end the series. It did an excellent job ending the series and does an excellent job ending the album.

The album is superb. The combination of songs is simply remarkable. There are a couple I would change, but everybody would have a couple they would change. The album is great representation of the music from Escaflowne. If you get it and like the songs, you can easily check the track list to find which of the other albums you would like to. All in all "best of" albums usually are good, but not great. This one is great. Most of the tracks are excellent. They really managed to pick all the right tracks. Some of the best music I've ever heard.
