I bought this CD expecting a lot out of it: Perfect Blue was one of my favorite movies, and I wanted it to be my favorite soundtrack. Unfortunately, that's not so. The poppy-vocal tracks (both from CHAM and the credits song) aren't too enjoyable to me. However, I was EXTREMELY pleased to get a complete version of the ballad Mima sings at the end of her last concert (Omoide ni Dakare te ima, or "Cherish These Memories"). This is my favorite track on the CD.

My other favorite track is track five, Virtua-Mima. The track plays continuously for five minutes, incorporating all the different versions you hear of it throughout the movie (this is the song that plays when the "other" Mima is around). There's a second version of this song at track 9, which uses only the strange vocals...I'm not a big fan of this track. The rest of the BGM is not too good, though. It's all hard-rock and scary and I just don't like it. It's hardly even musical. Also, the track that plays during the "fake rape scene" (a rockin' vocal track) is not present.

Another great aspect of this soundtrack is the packaging: Just a simple little booklet, but PLENTY of screens from the movie are found within. These screens help remind you of all the scenes in the movie where these songs played. I'd say it's a mediocre soundtrack...Still, if you liked the vocals (ESPECIALLY THAT BALLAD), or you're just into loud scary techno, this soundtrack is for you.
