Navarre announced that it has hired Marvin Gleicher as Vice President of DVD Content Acquisition. Gleicher is best known as the founder and former CEO of Manga Entertainment. Navarre is the parent corporation of the anime distributor, FUNimation.

Animeigo announced its acquisition of Yawara! A Fashionable Judo Girl. The first box set is slated for an early 2007 release. A preorder program for the show has been planned, though no details have been announced. Yawara is Animeigo's first anime license announcement since the You're Under Arrest! television series in 2001.

Akira Toriyama is scheduled to appear on NHK's Top Runner on September 12, 2006. Toriyama, a notorious recluse, is known for having agreed to very few interviews through his career. Toriyama is best known for his work on the Dragon Quest series of video games, as well as the popular Dragon Ball franchise.
