Get Out Your Gundams!
This is a call to arms! Get your Gundams and get ready to go! Bandai needs your help! Well, they probaly won't need you in a Gundam actually, so just get out your cash and get those import ordering fingers ready! On December 21st, Bandai will be releasing a limited edition of their upcoming PlayStation 2 game Mobile Suit Gundam.
The game is set to include a specially made crystal clear MS Selection RX-78-2 Gundam figure. Now I like video games and I like Gundam figures... so the combination makes me salivate at the thought of the two together. It will of course have everything else like a game CD, a case, and instructions (in case ya didn't know ^_^).
The story takes place in the time of Gundam 0079. It is, of course, during the One Year War. There hasn't been much detail on the actual story, but you will encounter familar foes such as Char Aznable, squads of Zakus, Ranba Ral, and even the Aircraft Carrier Gau. You play the role of Amuro Rei, the ever loveable Gundam pilot, piloting the RX-78. "Join the Army. See the world they said," and you will through various locations like towns, deserts, and jungles.
The game is a 3rd person action game, very similar to the DC Gundam game or the Gundam Wing game for PSX and PS2 now. As one man against an innumerable amount of foes, you don't stand a chance! So what do you do? You call for backup! To succeed you have to coordinate with your support suits, the GunTank and the GunCannon, which help you out when you request their assistance. And in this day and age, what would a game be without FMV? Well, whatever it would be, we won't find out with this game. It will feature over 40 mintues of CG movie and remake animation movie sequences throughout the game.
The similiarity to other Gundam games shouldn't be a surprise when you realize that the game is a team effort from some old pros. The teams who worked on the PSX's Zeta Gundam and Char's Counterattack games, as well as the DreamCast Gundam game are working together on this one. This game is worth it on its own, but with the special figure too... dang, I can't order fast enough! Stupid computer, move faster!!!
