Hey it may be a bit delayed, but as my momma always said, "Better late than never." Toonami, that wonderous block of programming that seems to be nothing but Japanese animation, is adding another anime series to the list. Outlaw Star will be airing on Toonami in the 6:30 PM time slot. The 26 episode series will start on January 15th.

Outlaw Star is another space show akin to Cowboy Bebop or Trigun. While not as impressive or compelling as those two series, Outlaw Star is definitely worth watching, especially since it's free (if you have the Cartoon Network anyway).

The story centers around Gene Starwind, a dashing, hands-on type of guy. He is joined by his sidekick Jim Hawking (no, not the dude who needs the little do-hickey to talk) who handles the mechanical, accounting, and computer side of things. Gene and Jim have their own small bodyguard company and soon get hired to help retrieve a starship. It's not just any ship though, but a ship created in a collaboration of the greatest minds from the lawless pirate clans and space's policing force. Every series needs that wacky character to say the wrong thing at the right time, and Outlaw Star is no exception. This time it's an Android with some not quite normal emotions. Things don't end here though, as Outlaw Star has a braindead character too, in the form of a physically powerful, absent minded catgirl. To round out the cast (err... outcasts) a beautiful and mysterious assassin tags along for the fun.

Outlaw Star isn't the best show, but it's darned good. It's filled to the brim with action and has a decent story as well. The characters are pretty well developed too, so mark your calendars for January 15th at 6:30 PM. You don't want to miss it!
