Film director Macoto Tezuka, son of Astro Boy and Black Jack creator Osamu Tezuka, announced that he will finish Osamu Tezuka's Legend of the Forest. Only half of the 1987 film was complete before Osamu Tezuka passed away.

Legend of the Forest was originally supposed to contain four acts, all set to Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4. However, the two middle segments were never produced, leaving just the opening and conclusion to the film. The existing animation for Legend of the Forest was released worldwide, with a theatrical run in Japan and a VHS release in the west (American release courtesy of The Right Stuf International).

Macoto Tezuka currently manages Tezuka Productions, and has worked on several Black Jack productions in the past.
