New York Anime fest representatives announced that the convention will host the debut of a new Vampire Hunter D film. Titled Vampire Hunter D: The Wanderer's Ship, is a short film based on a story written by franchise creator Hideyuki Kikuchi.

The publishing rights to Vampire Hunter D: The Wanderer's Ship were awarded as a random prize to Hitomi Yasue, a regular attendee of Kikuchi's Talk Live discussion group. The publishing rights to two other short stories were awarded to two other Talk Live attendees in a similar fashion. Yasue agreed to an English language premiere of the story because she wanted to encourage international awareness of the Vampire Hunter D franchise's roots.

The New York Anime Festival will be held from September 26-28.
