On September 20, Cartoon Network aired its final installment of the Toonami block. To commemorate the final installment, Cartoon Network aired a special "farewell" segment from TOM, the block's mascot, who was voiced by Steven Blum (Cowboy Bebop) The block was cancelled in response to declining ratings.

Toonami began on March 17, 1997 and was a large supporter of televised anime. Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, Rurouni Kenshin, YuYu Hakusho, and Dragon Ball Z were among the more prominent titles to grace the block.
