Anime News Network reports that anime studio Radix is suing Japanese production company Micott & Basara. The lawsuit will focus on unpaid production costs for the upcoming Appleseed: Genesis anime series. Radix claims that the two companies agreed to produce Appleseed: Genesis (based on the popular Masamune Shirow manga) on March 12. As of July, Micott & Basara ordered a halt on the title for unknown reasons. Radix alleges that Micott & Basara's explanation for halting production and payments for said production was not clear.

Appleseed: Genesis was revealed on March 30 at the Tokyo International Anime Fair. The title was to be a CGI title directed by Romanov Higa, with character designs by Haruhiko Mikimoto.

Radix is the animation team behind several fan favorite titles, including Haibane Renmei, Silent Mobius, and NieA_7. Micott & Basara currently hold the license to Masamune Shirow's Appleseed and, as such, have produced both the 2004 Appleseed film and its sequel Appleseed: Ex Machina.
