Geneon's parent company - the advertising and marketing company Dentsu - has announced that Universal Pictures International Entertainment acquired majority ownership of the Geneon subsidiary on November 7th.

Management of Geneon will fall under Universal as of the end of this month, with the new combined Geneon/Universal distribution company introducing a new name in February 2009. As of now, Universal owns 80.1% of Geneon, while Dentsu retains 19.9% ownership.
