Japanese celebrity Ai Iijima was found dead in her apartment on the afternoon of December 21. The exact time and cause of Iijima's death are not known, though reports state that she had been dead for several days when her body was found. Iijima was 36 years old.

Iijima is a former adult film star, who transitioned into a mainstream acting and singing career in 1993. In 2000, Iijima collaborated with Takeshi Takebayashi to create Time Traveler Ai, a fantasy manga that starred Iijima as the main character.
