The Hong Kong International Film Festival announced that Studio Ghibli's Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea is a nominee for Best Film at the Asian Film Awards. Hayao Miyazaki, who directed the film, received a nomination for Best Director, and Joe Hisaishi was nominated for Best Composer.

The third annual Asian Film Awards will be held on March 23.
