Director Hisayuki Toriyumi passed away on Friday, January 23 due to undisclosed causes. He was 67. Toriyumi is survived by his wife, Hiroko.

Toriyumi served as the director on several prominent anime productions, including Gatchaman, Mach GoGoGo (Speed Racer), and Tekkaman (Teknoman). He was a large influence on director Mamoru Oshii, who worked with Toriyumi on Dallos, the first Japanese OVA.
