Kalafina is the latest project from Kajiura that was formed in 2007 mainly to produce songs for the anime Kara no Kyoukai. The group consists of four singers: Keiko Kubota, Wakana Ootaki, and Hikaru, and Maya. Kubota and Ootaki were originally members of FictionJunction KEIKO and FictionJunction WAKANA, respectively. The group made its debut in January 2008 with Kubota and Ootaki. Maya and Hikaru were chosen from an audition held by Sony Music Japan and Yuki Kajiura. Over 30,000 participants attended the audition.
Since their formation, Kalafina produced an album, and four singles. Kalafina's newest album, Seventh Heaven, will hit Japanese stores on March 4, 2009.
