Based primarily on Hideyuki Kikuchi's third Vampire Hunter D novel, the new VHD movie, complete with a new story and different characters from the '85 cult classic, is animated by the acclaimed animation studio Madhouse. Early, unfinished versions of the new movie, Bloodlust, have been screened at a number of conventions across Canada and the US, but a final version is now ready for its North American debut.

Those attending the VHD premiere, scheduled for August 24th at the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles, can look forward to more than just a great show - key production members are set to be in attendance of the premiere as well, including director Yoshiaki Kawajiri (Ninja Scroll, Wicked City, Bio Hunter) and character designer Yutaka Minowa (Ninja Scroll, Outlaw Star, Angel Links, Escaflowne: A Girl In Gaia). A number of voice actors will also be attending, including John DiMaggio and John Rafter Lee, as will composer Marco D'Ambrosio.

Marco D'Ambrosio's previous work includes a wide range of composition from Lucasfilm's Droids and Ewoks animated series to Studio A.P.P.P.'s JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. His gothic, classically orchestrated compositions for the VHD movie can be heard on the Vampire Hunter D movie soundtrack, recently released on August 1st. In addition to D'Ambrosio's contribution to the soundtrack, Do As Infinity brings a j-pop vibe to the score with their vocal theme for VHD. Released as the title track of a Do As Infinity maxi-single back on April 25th, Tookumade is the final track (27) on the VHD movie soundtrack. To listen to Tookumade, head on over to the real audio section.

Finally, we have a few character sketches from the new VHD movie by character designer Yutaka Minowa. Take a peek at the first of two galleries here. Nothing can take away from Amano's original visual concept for VHD, but Minowa still does a fine job with it.
