Hayao Miyazaki recently provided illustrations for the Japanese release of Robert Westall's World War II novel Fathom Five (Suishin Go Hiro). Fathom Five hit Japanese bookstores earlier this month. The 1979 book is a loose sequel to the Carnegie Medal-winning novel The Machine Gunners.

Fathom Five tells the story of Chas, a 16-year-old British boy who discovers a transmitter on the beach following an attack on a cargo ship by a German submarine.

Miyazaki's illustration work includes the cover illustration and several pieces of interior art.
