FUNimation Acquires Linebarrels of Iron And Strike Witches

FUNimation announced that they acquired the rights to Linebarrels of Iron and Strike Witches. Currently, Strike Witches is slated to be released on DVD in a full season set in early 2010. The first season of Linebarrels of Iron will hit also hit DVD in a single set in 2010.

Strike Witches focuses on an alternate-reality 1939, where a race known as the Neuroi are attacking Earth. To combat the Neuroi, the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, an all-female, magically-powered aviation group also known as the Strike Witches, was assembled.Together, the Strike Witches must pilot Striker Units: pairs of mechanical, magical propeller units that fit over the wearer's legs, to combat the Neuroi.

Linebarrels of Iron focuses on Kouichi Hayase, a somewhat pathetic lad who is bullied to the point that he withdraws into a fantasy world. By a mixture of accident of accident and coincidence, Hayase comes itno the possession of a giant humanoid robot. The resulting battles and journey Hayase is forced into show the lad what life has to offer, both the good and the bad.

Gonzo Digimation previously offered both Strike Witches and Linebarrels of Iron through Crunchyroll in streaming format. Currently both shows are available in their entirety via Crunchyroll.
