FUNimation announced that they acquired the home video, toy, merchandising, and broadcast rights to Heat Guy J. FUNimation will release the series in a single boxed set later this year.

Heat Guy J was originally released in the west by Geneon Entertainment. The series was directed by Kazuki Akane (Escaflowne: The Movie, Birdy the Mighty Decode) and directed by BONES (Eureka Seven, Wolf's Rain). Heat Guy J originally ran on Japan's TBS network from October 1, 2002 to March 25, 2003, spanning 26 episodes.
