Central Park Media Files for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy
Central Park Media filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, closing its doors on Monday. The company owes $1.2 million to its creditors, and has not actively released new titles since 2007.
Central Park Media first opened its doors in 1990. Over the years, CPM released titles through its Software Sculptors, U.S. Manga Corps, and Anime 18 labels, including the following:
- Grave of the Fireflies
- Revolutionary Girl Utena
- Mobile Police Patlabor
- Record of Lodoss War
- The Slayers
- Night on the Galactic Railroad
- Project A-Ko
- Dominion Tank Police
- Descendants of Darkness
- Demon City Shinjuku
- Urutsukidoji
- La Blue Girl
CPM also released English translated manga which included fan favorites such as Comic Party, Record of Lodoss War, and The Slayers.
They were also formerly a sponsor of the Big Apple Anime Fest.
Filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy entails facing liquidation of assets - as opposed to Chapter 11 and 13 bankruptcies, which allow companies to restructure and continue operation.
Central Park Media was a large part of Anime Dream's early days. They helped us grow into the site that you, the reader, read today. For this we are truly grateful. All of the staff at Anime Dream extend our deepest sympathies and best wishes to the former CPM staff.
