Crunchyroll and Mushi Production - the anime studio founded by Osamu Tezuka - are holding a subtitle translation contest centered around Tezuka's Wonder Beat Scramble. Specifically, Crunchyroll is seeking fan-submitted translations for a nine-minute TV special currently streaming in raw Japanese. Crunchyroll also hosts the first two episodes of Wonder Beat Scramble's TV series with English subtitles.

Mushi Production provided prizes for the top four entries in addition to the grand prize winner. The winner won't receive financial compensation, however. Contest co-organizer Samuel Pinansky says that this particular experiment may lead to other similar projects, if it is successful. He also notes that "retro" children's series by Tezuka like Wonder Beat Scramble are works of historical importance in anime, but would completely fail as a financial venture if a company attempted to release the series through more traditional for-profit means.

Mushi Production hopes to release Princess Knight, Ashita no Joe, Dororo, and other such titles on Crunchyroll.
