The Japanese government is working to establish a tentatively titled Contents Overseas Development Fund for the purpose of supporting the global expansion of Japanese media, with a particular focus on animation and film. Money from the Industrial Reform Organization (A joint private/public fund being established in July) and other sources will be invested in this fund, with intention to establish the Contents Overseas Development Fund by this fall.

The fund itself will promote expansion in license acquisitions from domestic companies and creators overseas, as well as investment in overseas production companies.

This fund is part of a developing larger government strategy intended to promote Japan's "brand."
