Murasaki Yamada Passes Away At Age 60

The Tokyo Shimbun reports that Murasaki Yamada passed away. She was 60. Yamada passed in a Kyoto hospital, at 4.16AM on Tuesday.

Yamada was born as Mitsuko Shiratori in Tokyo in 1948. She made her professional debut in Mushi Production's Com magazine, an alternative manga publication, in 1969. Yamada's work later appeared in Seirindo's Monthly Manga Garo. Yamada created several manga titles, including Ai no Katachi, Showaru-Neko, and Shinkirari. Outside of literature, Yamada ran for a seat in Japan's House of Councillors in 1989.

Aside form her manga work, Yamada was a prominent feminist, essayist, and poet. She was working as a professor at Kyoto Seika University in the Faculty of Manga before she passed away.
