British Distributor Optimum Home Entertainment recently scheduled a DVD release for Studio Ghibli's Ocean Waves (Umi ga Kikoeru). The release will be the first time that Ocean Waves will be available in an English-speaking country. Optimum acquired the rights to the film in the United Kingdom last year.

Ocean Waves was directed by Tomomi Mochizuki, and is based on the novel of the same name by Saeko Himuro. The feature is one of two Ghibli pieces not included in the distribution deal between Tokuma Shoten and Disney that granted Disney exclusive rights to all other Ghibli features. The other title is Grave of the Fireflies, which was originally released by Central Park Media. ADV Films currently holds the rights to Grave of the Fireflies.

Currently, no American party holds the rights to Ocean Waves.
