Gundam Creator to Attend New York Anime Fest

The New York Anime Festival announced that Yoshiyuki Tomino will attend as a Guest of Honor. Tomino will attend to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam.

Tomino began his career in the anime industry at Mushi Production, where he trained under Osamu Tezuka. At Mushi Production, Tomino worked on Astro Boy, among other Tezuka series. He began work at Sunrise in the 1970s, where he went on to create Mobile Suit Gundam. After the first series, Tomino oversaw the production of the following:

  • The first Mobile Suit Gundam film trilogy
  • Z Gundam
  • Gundam ZZ
  • Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack
  • Mobile Suit Gundam F91
  • V Gundam
  • Turn a Gundam

In addition to his work on the animation, Tomino wrote a number of novels based on Mobile Suit Gundam.

Outside of Gundam, Tomino worked on a number of notable titles including Overman King Gainer and Brain Powerd.

Bandai Entertainment currently holds domestic rights to all Mobile Suit Gundam animations.
