Kino International announced that they will release a collection of experimental shorts by Osamu Tezuka on American DVD. The collection will be released under the title The Astonishing Work of Tezuka Osamu on July 28.

The Astonishing Work of Tezuka Osamu will contain 13 shorts, many of which are rare prints that were only screened at Japanese film festivals. The DVD will also contain an 18-minute interview with Osamu Tezuka from 1986 as an extra.

The collection will contain 13 shorts in English-subtitled format. The list of titles is as follows:

  • Tales of the Street Corner
  • Male
  • Memory
  • Mermaid
  • The Drop
  • Pictures At An Exhibition
  • The Genesis
  • Jumping
  • Broken Down Film
  • Push
  • Muramasa
  • Legend of the Forest
  • Self Portrait

Eight of the titles are currently available on Apple's iTunes store.

Tezuka's son, Makoto, is still attempting to complete his father's Legend of the Forest film. The Mori no Densetsu movie began production in 1987, but only the first and fourth of its four parts were completed before Tezuka's death in 1989. What was produced was licensed by Right Stuf International and Madman Entertainment in the past.
