Microsoft announced that they recruited a number of prominent anime studios to animate Halo Legends: a collection of short films based on Bungie's Halo video game franchise. Currently, the following studios are signed on to produce content for the compilation:

  • BONES
  • Casio Entertainment
  • Production I.G.
  • Studio 4°C
  • Toei Animation

In addition, directors Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed, Bubblegum Crisis) and Mamoru Oshii(Ghost in the Shell, The Sky Crawlers) will each work on a segment.

Aramaki's segment will cover a short history of the games' Spartan Warriors. Studio 4°C will animate two 30-minute features about the history of the Halo universe, and Toei will produce a comedic short that is outside of Halo's established canon.

Warner Brothers will release the title in America on DVD, Blu-Ray, and via digital distribution early next year.
