4Kids Puts Itself Up For Sale

Digital media news site Paidcontent reports that 4Kids is currently on the auction block. The company is undergoing a selective bidding process, and speaking with interested parties.

4Kids was founded in 1970 under the name Leisure Concepts, Inc. The company is infamous through the anime community for its dramatic editing and alteration of high-profile titles such as One Piece, Tokyo Mew Mew, and Shaman King.The company currently holds the rights to Yu Gi Oh!, Dinosaur King, and Pokemon.

Earlier this year, the company recorded a loss of $2 million in the first quarter, up from last year's loss of $4.6 million. During the same period, revenues fell from $15 million to $10.5 million. They maintain a market capital of $25 million. Last year, 4Kids ended its Saturday morning cartoon block on Fox, though they still run the CW4Kids block. Last December, 4Kids laid off 15% of their workforce.
