Columbia Tristar's theatrical run of Metropolis has consistently pulled strong box-office numbers since its debut January 25th, and in light of this continued success, the home video release has been delayed, giving the film more time to flourish on the big screen. Originally scheduled for release on VHS and DVD on March 12th, Metropolis will now hit retail shelves April 23rd. The DVD will carry a price tag of $27.96, and the 2 disc set will feature a number of extras, including a making of special, an interview with director Rintaro, and a history of Metropolis comic book, among other bonus material.

Based on the manga by Osamu Tezuka, a pioneer in both anime and manga, and known best for Kimba The White Lion and Astro Boy, Metropolis is set in a futuristic city where humans and robots form a highly segmented society -- a society in which division and mistrust lays the groundwork for groups like anti-robot factions. The story focuses on Tima, an attractive young girl created by the rebel scientist Dr Laughton who finds herself thrust into the unrest created by the anti-robot factions. Metropolis also brings the directorial talent of Rintaro (Galaxy Express 999, X) together with the screen writing prowess of Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira, Roujin Z).
