Anime Nation reports that the Akira live-action adaptation is still in production. The film was reported to have been cancelled earlier this year; however, producer Andrew Lazar recently revealed that the film is not dead. On the contrary, Warner Brothers writers are working on a script.

On September 7, Collider revealed that the film is being written by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. The film is reported to be a "priority project" for the studio, and will begin filming next year for a 2011 release. Fergus and Ostby previously collaborated on the scripts for Iron Man and Children of Men.
