Veteran voice actor Akira Kamiya announced on his blog this morning that he will no longer play the major recurring role of Kogoro Mouri in the Detective Conan (Case Closed) anime series. He followed the announcement by stating that he cannot discuss the reasons for this, but acknowledged his own fault in the situation.

Kamiya apologized in the post to the fans, mangaka Gosho Aoyama, the other voice cast members (Minami Takayama, Wakana Yamazaki, Kenichi Ogata, and others), the APU Studio staff, YTV network, and publisher Shogakukan.

Kamiya played private investigator Kogoro Mouri - a key private eye character in the main cast, father of Conan's friend Ran - since the series originally premiered in 1996.
