Film producers James Young, Ford Oelman, and Mark Costa recently filed a lawsuit against World Event Productions (WEP) regarding the American rights to Voltron. According to Costa, Oelman, and Young, Animus Films and NHO Entertainment had an exclusive agreement for the rights to produce a Voltron film, beginning in 2004. They allege that WEP and Kickstart Entertainment's Jason Netter negotiated with other producers while the exclusivity agreement was in place. Young told the Hollywood Reporter that they "want the movie to get made. We just want to make sure we're involved in some way and are compensated."

WEP insists the lawsuit will not affect its recent deal with Atlas Entertainment, which staffs Afro Samurai and Dark Knight producer Charles Roven.

Young, Oelman, and Costa are currently employed by Animus Films and NHO Entertainment.

The new lawsuit is separate from WEP's current legal battle with Toei over the rights to produce the project. Currently, the situation is in mediation outside of court.
