Viz Media announced that they acquired the North American rights to the Vampire Knight anime series. The license grants Viz broadcast, DVD, streaming, Download-to-own, and merchandising rights to the series. As of press time, Viz did not specify how they would release the series in America, or if they acquired the sequel series Vampire Knight Guilty.

Vampire Knight is based on the manga by Matsuri Hino. The series was animated by Studio Deen and directed by Kiyoko Sayama (Pretear, Kaleido Star). The show ran from April 8 to July 1, 2008 and spanned 13 episodes. A second series, Vampire Knight Guilty, was also animated by Studio Deen, and ran from October 7 to December 30, 2008.

Viz Media also holds the rights to the Vampire Knight manga. They recently released the series' seventh volume, which ranked #6 on the most recent New York Times Manga Best Seller list.
