Dentsu, Inc. announced that they established an American subsidiary. The new subsidiary, known as Dentsu Entertainment USA, is a wholly-owned company based in Santa Monica, California. The company will be tasked with developing original entertainment content, as well as promoting international licensing. They will begin operations with $358,000 in capital.

Dentsu Entertainment USA was preceded by a team that was formed within the existing Dentsu America branch in January 2008. The team decided that a new entertainment company would be most productive in expanding Dentsu's entertainment business abroad.

Dentsu Entertainemnt USA's first duties will be to manage Dentsu's interests in the Chub City toy franchise, as well as the Deltora Quest anime franchise. The company will also handle licensing for the Mameshiba franchise.

This is not Dentsu's first foray into the American entertainment industry. The company acquired a majority stake in Pioneer Entertainment in 2003, which it renamed Geneon Entertainment. Dentsu transferred majority ownership of Geneon to Universal Pictures International Entertainment in 2008.
