In a recent Anime News Network interview, FUNimation CEO Gen Fukunaga stated that the company anticipates a continued back-end distribution relationship with parent company Navarre even after the possible sale currently in consideration. He also dismissed speculation that FUNimation's original owners - Fukunaga himself and the Cocanaugher family in Texas - were buying the company back.

In addition, Fukunaga mentioned that FUNimation will announce its first co-production in the next few weeks, after announcing the company's new co-production iniative last November. Navarre stated that new ownership would help FUNimation expand in "co-productions of original anime content, social networks, and digital broadcasting."

The co-production initiative involves developing projects based on well-known titles in the US that have large fanbases.
