Japanese and American Publishers Join To Combat Scanlations

Japan's Digital Comic Association and numerous American publishers recently joined together to form a coalition against scanlations. The coalition of 43 corporations asserts that scanlation aggregators currently host "thousands of pirated titles" as they earn revenue at the creators' expenses, undermine foreign licensing opportunities, and cannibalize legitimate sales. The coalition threatened legal action against thirty scanlation sites, whom they declined to name. Earlier today, scanlation aggregator Manga Helpers announced that they will cease operations immediately.
