Crunchyroll CEO Kun Gao announced that the company acquried the domestic DVD rights to Makoto Shinkai's 5 Centimeters Per Second. Crunchyroll wil handle the production, promotion, and financing of the title, while Bandai Entertainment will manufacture and distribute it. San Francisco's Viz Theater will screen the film on September 14.

5 Centimeters Per Second will be Crunchyroll's first DVD release. The company plans to ship the title between late September and early October, with a new dub by Bang! Zoom Entertainment. Originally, the film was released in America by ADV Films.
