Man Charged with Recording Anime Film

Anime News Network reports that Nakano City's central police filed charges against a 42-year-old man, for allegations of recording audio from two films with his mobile phone. The individual, who was not identified, allegedly recorded the soundtracks from Mobile Suit Gundam 00 the Movie: Awakening of the Trailblazer and SP The Motion Picture: Yabo-Hen in a Nakano theater on November 4. According to police, several audience members reported the individual to theater staff.

The Nakano District Public Prosecutor's Office is processing the charges under the Japanee Copright Act, and a recently passed law that bans individuals from possessing hidden recording devices. The suspect claims that he was recording the film for personal use.
