After only a few weeks, TOKYOPOP's first print of "100% Authentic Manga" books have sold out. The "Authentic Manga" difference is that it is printed in the right-to-left format that one would find in the traditional Japanese manga. While this would seem cumbersome to Americans, it has not deterred them.

Nine titles received this the authentication treatment. A few of their top selling titles were: Cowboy Bebop, Chobits, Great Teacher Onizuka, and Real Bout High School. Nearly 200,000 copies were shipped in April alone, marking it as the company’s largest publishing month to date. TOKYOPOP has aspirations to increase the amount of manga titles it produces to 30 a month by 2003. The line of “100% Authentic Manga” by TOKYOPOP can be found in many different retailers, such as: Waldenbooks, Borders, Barnes and Noble, SUNCOAST and many other retailers, totaling over 2,000 locations.
