Anime News Network reports that Spike Lee (Do the Right Thing, Miracle At St. Anna) signed onto Mandate Pictures' adaptation of Park Chan-Wook's Oldboy film. Last week, Twitch reported that Lee was in talks for the project.

Mandate Pictures is developing Oldboy with producers Doug Davison and Roy Lee (The Ring, Dark Water) of Vertigo Entertainment and Lee's 40 Acres & A Mule Productions, respectively. The script is being handled by Mark Protosevich (Thor, I Am Legend), and the executive producer role will be filled by Nathan Kahane.

Dreamworks originally presented the idea of an American adaptation in 2008. The film was to star Will Smith and be directed by Stephen Spielberg. Shortly after Spielberg's planned was announced, Smith revealed that Dreamworks's version would be an adaptation of the Oldboy manga.
