Singapore to Submit A Drifting Life Film For Oscar Nod

Variety magazine reported that Singapore is submitting Eric Khoo's animated adaptation of A Drifting Life for consideration in the foreign-language category of this year's Academy Awards. The film is based on Yoshihiro Tatsumi's semi-autobiographical manga of the same name. and revolves around Tatsumi's post-World War II life.

A Drifting Life was a landmark manga that pioneered the gekiga style of storytelling and art. The title originally shipped in Japan in 2008 as a two-volume series. The title was acquired in North America by Drawn & Quarterly, who released it in a single 840-page volume. The title won two Eisner Awards in 2010, and Tatsumi was nominated to be entered into the Eisner Hall of Fame.
