FUNimation and video streaming service NicoNico announced that they will form a joint venture known as Funico. The new company will handle licensing for both FUNimation and NicoNico. Going forward, NicoNico will stream Funico-licensed titles, while FUNimation will release these titles on home video.

In addition to physical media and streaming, Funico-licensed titles will be offered through download-to-own options. In addition, the companies intend to acquire the rights to anime for countries outside of America and Canada, and will obtain as much as licensors allow on a case-by-case basis.

NicoNico announced that their streaming service will offer high-defnition video for both free and paid subscribers.
