Takeshi Sawamura, the president of Gainax, the company responsible for such highly-popular anime as Neon Genesis Evangelion, Fushigi no Umi no Nadia and Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou, has recently been convicted in a Japanese court for tax evasion of 580,000,000 yen (approximately $5,400,000 US). He was sentenced to 1 year and 8 months of prison.

The Tokyo court judge commented that for such a crime inprisonment was unavoidable. Gainax's comments on the subject are unknown as of now.
