Over the weekend, many companies made big annoucements of new acquisitions at the Otakon anime convention held in Baltimore, Maryland.

Bandai announced that the company has acquired Planetes, Fantastic Children, and Avengers.

Geneon announced the following new acquisitions: Human Scramble Jubei-Chan 2: Siberia Yagyuu no Gyakushuu Koi Kaze Kyou Kara Mao Le Portrait de Petit Cossette Star Ocean EX Tokyo Underground Ultra Maniac TV series

FUNimation has acquired the license for the first and second seasons of Grappler Baki.

Right Stuf International announced that it has acquired the rights to Piano and the Gravitation OAV. The live action Boogiepop & Others movie will be subtitled due to concerns about preserving the artistic and cultural integrity of the film. The Irresponsible Captain Tylor DVD boxed set will be released next year with three extra DVDs containing 400 minutes of bonus material. The Critical Mass line will add three new acquisitions in the form of Gakuen no Syuryousya, Heisa Byouin , and the Onna Kyousi: Yumi no Houkago OAV series. The Right Stuf International also confirmed that there are no future plans to begin publishing translated manga or novels.

Media Blasters announced that there are no plans in the future for more Berserk animation and English translations of Japanese novels. The special edition of the first Giant Robo DVD will have a big "eye" that acts as a special slot to hold all four DVDs. The special edition of the first DVD volume of Gokusen will include a replica of Kumiko Yamaguchi's nylon track suit jacket.
