Azumanga Cuts its Major Attack on the Haus of Tokuyama Tezuka

ADV Films has announced that they will be releasing the Azumanga Daioh: Class Album DVD box set on September 20. Unlike most DVD boxes or bricks, the set has been re-authored to five discs. The extra features that were included in the original discs have been removed as a result. The set will retail for $69.98US.

Japanese group Attack Haus will perform their first live American show in New York City on June 27, 28, and 30. Attack Haus is best known among American fans for their work on the opening theme song for Otogi Zoshi.

TOKYOPOP has announced that the company will launch a publishing division in Japan. The division will focus on releasing Hollywood titles in "manga" and "cinemanga" formats. The current goal will be to release some ten titles, which will generate about 500 million yen. Three Star Wars "cinemanga" are expected to be released as the first titles in the Japan line on June 21.

Japan's NHK network has announced that the baseball anime series Major will receive a second season. Major's first season has recently concluded on Japanese television.

Tezuka Productions has established a subsidiary in China. The firm, named "Beijing Sharaku," will focus on original works, and is already working in its first film. The feature, titled Butterfly on the Shoulder, will be directed by Jacob Chang in Hong Kong. Tezuka Productions is the second producer of Japanese animation to open a Chinese subsidiary.

Tokuyama University has opened a division of its library that is devoted to manga. Currently, the wing holds 5,000 books. Titles were chosen based on popularity of titles and characters. The books were purchased for approximately 3 million yen via a second-hand book shop in Tokyo.
