Sports manga and anime are an often overlooked genre in the domestic market, many terrific series being left in Japan commercially untranslated despite their potential to allure North American fans, both those interested in sports and those just looking for another engrossing series to get into. One such series is Takehiko Inoue's Slam Dunk, a manga series turned anime, featuring both a long running TV series as well as a number of OVAs.

While fansubs may only appeal to a limited segment of anime fandom, the exposure it offered Slam Dunk to North American audiences has been more than enough to create a loyal fan following for the series. In hopes of opening this show up to a larger market segment, as well as making a high quality, commercially translated version of it available to all the Slam Dunk fans out there, a petition has been started. The goal for the petition is to collect 10,000 signatures in hopes of convincing Bandai that there's more than enough fan interest to release Slam Dunk in North America, preferably on DVD. If you're interested in seeing this series translated, then head on over to the Slam Dunk Online Petition and show your support!

Never heard of Slam Dunk? Interested in learning more about the series before plastering your name on a petition for it? If so, then you're in luck! Kakyouin has written a review of Slam Dunk, going over his thoughts on the basketball series. Don't expect to just see sports material in the show though, as Slam Dunk is a well-rounded series mixing basketball action with a dash of humor, a touch of romance, and plenty more. Head on over to the Reviews section and check out the newest addition here for more info on this series, then if you haven't done so already, sign the petition!
