Just as the film Metropolis thrives on ironic dualities, so have we two different takes on this retro-future urban tale. Editor Ryu's review takes the film as a well-told version of the universal tale of boy-meets-girl, spiced up with many layers of backplot and artistic magnificence. In contrast, my own review highlights the depth of symbolism and artistry that packs many levels of meaning on top of the already detail-intensive vistas of the film. But, you don't need to take our own praise on faith - Columbia Tristar Home Entertainment has generously provided a DVD of Metropolis for a contest giveaway. Since robots feature such a major role in the film, we felt it was only appropriate that the contest have a similar focus. Thus, to enter the contest, you will need to tell us who your favorite robot is (from any source - anime, movies, books, whatever) and why, in 50 words or less. So, if you're interested in getting a copy of this artistic masterpiece for your own, you have two weeks (until May 20th) to submit your entry to (ed. note: contest closed). Be sure to include your desired shipping address with your entry - entries with no or duplicate shipping address will be rejected as a matter of course. Additionally, only entrants from the continental US will be elgible for the prize.
