Ghibli in the News

Just as a reminder, a couple Ghibli movies snuck out of the asylum recently and are at large in the states. Isao Takahata's chronicle of environment-saving Raccoon Rangers (Pom Poko) is on the loose with all its shape-shifting mayhem. In fact, it might be your toaster, so forget even looking for it.

Also from Takahata is My Neighbors the Yamadas, a colorful look at family life from the trenches. Have you gotten your copy yet? Of course you have!

A note on near-future releases: Along with the expected R2 release of Howl's Moving Castle this November, Ghibli has another fall release in the works, which will combine several of their short animations and commercials. Probably most notable is the inclusion of On Your Mark, a music video (Chage & Aska performed the song) directed by Mr. Miyazaki, that has not yet appeared on DVD. Titled Ghibli ga Ippai Special Short Short, the collection doesn't have a firm date yet.

If you don't do your best to get your Ghibli fix, you'll turn into pigs! Or is it cats?
